About the Time Card Calculator

Tracking work hours manually can be prone to errors, especially when dealing with odd minutes (e.g., 9:17 to 5:03). This calculator simplifies the process by handling the time math for you.

Timesheet Mode

Enter your start and end times for each day of the week. You can also deduct unpaid break time (e.g., 30 minutes for lunch). The calculator automatically handles shifts that span across midnight (e.g., 10 PM to 6 AM).

Add Hours Mode

Use this mode if you have a list of durations (like "2h 15m", "3h 45m") and want to know the total sum. This is useful for project tracking or adding up flight times.

Decimal Hours Explained

Payroll is typically calculated using decimal hours.
30 minutes = 0.5 hours
15 minutes = 0.25 hours
45 minutes = 0.75 hours
This tool provides both the "Hour/Minute" format (e.g., 8h 30m) and the "Decimal" format (e.g., 8.5) needed for multiplying by your hourly wage.

? Frequently Asked Questions

If your End Time is earlier than your Start Time (e.g., Start 10:00 PM, End 6:00 AM), the calculator automatically assumes the shift ended the next day and adds 24 hours to the calculation.

Calculate your total hours for the week first. Anything over 40 hours is typically considered overtime. You can then apply your overtime rate (usually 1.5x) to the excess hours manually.

Time clocks show hours and minutes (8:30). Payroll systems use decimal hours (8.5). To convert minutes to decimals, divide by 60. For example, 30 minutes / 60 = 0.5.
