Child Height Calculator

Predict how tall your child will be based on parents' height. Use the scientifically recognized Mid-Parental method to estimate future adult height.

How Tall Will My Child Be?

Genetics is the single strongest factor in determining a child's final adult height. This calculator uses the Mid-Parental Height method (also known as the Tanner Method), which is the standard formula used by pediatricians to estimate a child's genetic potential.

The Formula

  • For Boys: Add 5 inches (or 13 cm) to the mother's height, add the father's height, then divide by 2.
    (Mother + Father + 13cm) / 2
  • For Girls: Subtract 5 inches (or 13 cm) from the father's height, add the mother's height, then divide by 2.
    (Mother + Father - 13cm) / 2

Accuracy & Range

No predictor is 100% accurate. Most children will reach a height within 2 inches (5 cm) of this mid-parental target. However, other factors play a significant role:

  • Nutrition: Adequate protein, calcium, and vitamins are crucial during growth spurts.
  • Health: Chronic illnesses or hormonal imbalances can affect growth.
  • Sleep: Growth hormone is primarily released during deep sleep.

If you are concerned about growth, compare your child's current stats using a growth chart or consult a pediatrician. You can also check our BMI Calculator for weight health.

? Frequently Asked Questions

The Mid-Parental method is about 95% accurate within a range of +/- 4 inches. It provides a genetic target, but environmental factors can shift the final result.

Yes. Due to better nutrition and health care, newer generations are often slightly taller than their parents. Regression to the mean also suggests that very short parents may have taller children, and very tall parents may have shorter children.

Girls typically stop growing around age 14-15, or a couple of years after menstruation begins. Boys often continue growing until age 16-18, sometimes into their early 20s.
