Grade Calculator
Calculate your current class grade and determine what score you need on the final exam to get an A. Supports weighted percentages and point-based grading.
Understanding Grading Systems
Most schools use one of two systems: Weighted or Points.
Weighted Grades
In a weighted system, categories (like Homework, Quizzes, Final Exam) are worth a specific percentage of your total grade.
Example: Homework is 20%, Tests are 50%, Final is 30%.
It doesn't matter how many points an individual assignment is worth, only the average of that category and its weight.
Points System
In a points system, every assignment has a point value. Your grade is simply the total points you earned divided by the total points possible.
Example: You earned 450 points out of 500 total points possible = 90%.
A 100-point test is worth exactly twice as much as a 50-point homework assignment.
Calculating What You Need on the Final
To determine what score you need on your final exam ($x$), the formula depends on your system:

? Frequently Asked Questions
If your weights sum to less than 100% (e.g., before the final exam), the calculator determines your current grade based on the weight accumulated so far. If weights exceed 100%, the math may be skewed, so ensure your syllabus adds up correctly.
